I created GreenExecutive as a platform for people with a professional interest in sustainability to share information, discuss issues, and make contacts. Presently, plenty of people are reading the blog and forum posts. However, only a small percentage are posting. This is not unique to GreenExecutive, it is normal for most social media platforms. To get a lot of activity, you typically need a very large number of users and I was aware of this hurdle at the concept stage. However, I naively thought that a community with a focus as important as ours might be different.

I know you are probably busy and I can empathise with that. However, if everyone contributed even a small amount of time, it would make a HUGE difference. For instance, if our existing members made just one post or reply monthly (hardly a massive drain on your time), that would be roughly 40 posts/replies daily and thereby make this a vibrant community. Even something as simple as sharing links to some of your favourite resources would be helpful.

Yes, I know that we also need more users. However, it will be a LOT easier to attract and motivate new members if the existing users can help to make this a more active community. It would also help greatly if you invited colleagues and friends to join. For example, you could make a post to your LinkedIn or Twitter followers.

So how about it? Can I persuade you to assist in making this community a success? It doesn’t need to be a big drain on your time and you would be sharing information with people who are trying to make the world a better and more sustainable place. Surely this is a cause that you could find a few minutes every now and then to support?

Finally, my heartfelt thanks to the select group who have been keeping our forums and blog alive. I greatly appreciate your contribution and have loved reading your posts.

Adam Thyer, I am extremely grateful that you have created this much needed platform. Please don't get too disheartened. Even though it's early days, it is already a very useful resource. Of course, if more people would contribute, it would be even more so. I hope that people support your request.

People are creatures of habit. You are either in the habit of doing something or you aren't. Forming a new habit requires a conscious effort. It is the same reason why some people get a gym membership but never use it, or buy books they never read. But personally I think that's weakness. If you know something is important, you should use a bit of will power and get it done. Posting to these forums occasionally is easy, you just have to do it. Here I am doing it right now and all it cost me was a couple of minutes :D

Many people will be genuinely busy but if they have enough time to read the content, surely they can also post occasionally? To me that just seems like the right thing to do.

I can't see in your categories "Biodiversity". So, I am not sure, if our mission of Linking Tourism & Conservation (LT&C, Linking Tourism & Conservationhttps://www.ltandc.org ) fits into your discussion fora. If it does, we may think about, how our networks can produce cross-fertilization

I think having an online platform like GreenExecutive is important. Transitioning rapidly to a green economy will involve a steep learning curve for everyone. Firstly, there are a lot of experts who do not know much about issues outside their area of specialisation. I think it is important that they understand the basics of the full spectrum of environmental and social problems, so we can take a holistic approach to solutions. The latter also requires opportunities to connect and collaborate. Secondly, there are many business people who do not understand the basics and need to be brought up to speed. In other words, GreenExecutive can be a useful source of information for novices and experts alike, plus an opportunity to make connections both in and outside of our areas of expertise. I therefore urge you to generously contribute.
